Using Ground Ingredient to Make Dog Food
Some pet owners prefer to make dog food at home. It is important to use fresh ingredients and ground ingredients to facilitate the digestion and prevent any organ punctures that may be caused by splinters or large particles of food.
- Cook the Food – Cooked foods are easier to grind. By cooking you will also get rid of existing bacteria.
- Ingredients – Bones are a great source of calcium for dogs, however they may be harmful for dogs. Don’t feed your dog whole bones, make sure to grind them first. You can feed your dog other organs, cartilages or fat from chicken or turkey. Dogs may enjoy fruits or vegetables in their homemade food.
- Use a Grinder – Use a grinder to obtain the ingredients for your dog food. Grind the bones separately. Make sure the bone powder is fine and that there are no bone splinters that may puncture organs or cause indigestion.
- Serve the Food – Put the food mix on the dog’s food bowl and add some bone ground powder. You can use some oatmeal or cornmeal to make the food thicker. Add some fresh vegetables to enhance the taste of the mix and offer a variety of textures that the dog enjoys.
