Did You Know...
59% of those surveyed say pets are good for their health and the health of their family and help them relax. 40% say that owning a dog motivates them to exercise on a regular basis. Three-quarters of dog owners consider their dog like a child or family member and more than half of cat owners say the same (NPOS). From APPMA

Choosing a Dog Walking Harness

Dog walking becomes much easier when you outfit your dog with a harness instead of a dog walking collar. Purchasing a harness for dogs is the perfect way to keep the dog who pulls on the leash under control—without cutting into the dog's throat.

The Size of the Harness

There is no "one size fits all" dog harness, so be sure to have your dog try on a small, medium or large harness and see if it's adjustable for a custom fit. The center of the dog walking harness should rest low on the breastbone so that your dog won't be in pain when you pull. Be careful to avoid harnesses that ride up into the trachea area.

How to Use the Harness on Walks

If your dog is a frequent puller on walks, the harness you select should act as a dog training harness. You must learn to pull on the harness only when your dog is trying to pull you. Give him a comfortable lead when he's walking beside you. Don't use a retractable leash because your dog shouldn't be rewarded for talking the lead and deciding where you walk.

A harness can make walks with your dog a much more pleasant experience. Just be sure to try it on your dog before you buy.
