Description: The Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla was bred from a German Wirehaired Pointer and Hungarian Vizsla in the late 1930s for hunting fur and feather, pointing and retrieving from land and water. The Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla has its own special nature and apart and its aim in life is to please....making it a wonderful pet, friend and helper in all forms. It is also a wonderful working companion and is very sort after by all sportsmen. The Wirehaired Vizsla is Loving, demonstrative and gentle, the Vizsla is somewhat willful and distractible, but smart and trainable.

Coat: Wiry, close-lying, strong, and dense. 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/4 inch in length with a dense, water-repellent undercoat. The outline of the body is not to be hidden by the longer coat. Pronounced eyebrows along with a strong, harsh beard, 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/4 inch-beard on both sides of the muzzle reinforce the determined expression. The coat should never be long, soft, silky, shaggy, crinkle, woolly, thin, lacking undercoat or lacking brushes on the legs.

Temperament: Lively, gentle mannered and demonstratively affectionate, fearless and with well developed protective instinct. Intelligent, obedient, sensitive, very affectionate and easily trained.
With Children: They are reliable with children, able to adapt quickly to family life
With Pets: generally good with other dogs

Care and Training: The Wirehaired coat is harsh, hard, and loose fitting, with no gloss. There is a winter undercoat and the hair forms a brush on the back part of the forelegs. It is easy to keep in peak condition. Brush with a firm bristle brush, and dry shampoo occasionally. Bathe with mild soap only when necessary. The nails should be kept trimmed. These dogs are average shedders.

Learning Rate: -
Activity: The Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla is an energetic working dog with enormous stamina. They need to be taken on daily, long, brisk walks or jogs. In addition, it needs plenty of opportunity to run, preferably off the leash in a safe area.

Living Environment: The Wirehaired Vizsla is not recommended for apartment life. It is moderately active indoors and does best with at least an average-sized yard.
