Puppy Names Description: An Aussiedoodle is a Poodle hybrid that is a cross-breed of a Poodle and a Miniature Australian Shepherd and may demonstrate any combination of traits from those two breeds. Poodle hybrids have become very popular in the past few years. They play a big role in the current designer dog trend. The cross with the Poodle is usually because of the Poodle's nonshedding coat. The experimentation of these hybrid or designer dogs has not been recognized by the American Kennel Club or Canadian Kennel Club. The key to cross breeding to purebred dogs is what is called hybrid vigor, the breeding resulting in a healthier dog with superior genetic constitution can come from dogs purebred for so long that they have common genetic disorders. The Aussiedoodle may have low-shedding and low-dander characteristics from the Poodle breed, even with the longer coat. They may also inherit a higher intelligence associated with the Poodle. This is an attractive dog that comes in a variety of colors. The Australian Shepherd has traditionally been a herding type dog, which can be passed onto the Aussiedoodle. Type: Companion and sometimes herding dog Color: Black, Blue Merle
(marbled gray and black), Red (cinnamon to liver), Red Merle (red and silver
or buff marbled), White and Tan and combinations of these colors. Temperament: Nice personality with higher than average intelligence and sociability skills. Versatile and compliant. Care and Exercise: Needs coat brushed and groomed regularly. Activity: Needs area to roam and “herd” – likes activity. Living Environment: Fenced yard, leash, socialization, and training Health Issues: Screen for hip dysplasia and eye diseases. History: A crossbred that has only been developed in the past few years. The Aussiedoodle was bred with a Poodle and Australian Shepherd and has unusual coat colorings. They are more popular in North America than in Australia. |
